Warhammer Marine Painting

Citadel colors and Indigo Energy drink helped a lot.

I love model kits and dioramas, Warhammer model kits are great since they are made to build paint and play.

Usually marines are painted by using layer colors but I choose another method, I started by priming the marine in Citadel colour LEAD BELCHER, and this gave the whole figure a bronze metallic layer paint which was very cool looking I have a bigger affinity for metallic looking surfaces over mate surfaces so this is how I decided to start.

People usually like to have a wide arrange of colors to choose from, but I like to stick with the basics since there is a lot of things you can do with them, these are my colors:

  • BASE golden retributor armour
  • CONTRAST basilicanum gray
  • CONTRAST talassar blue
  • CONTRART blood angels red
  • LAYER stromhost silver
  • LAYER white scar
  • TECHNICAL ardcoat
  • TAMIYA flat red XF-7
  • TAMIYA metallic gray XF-56
My fist advice it's to use a wide brush and color the base in basilicanum gray, be fast with the first layer  then use white to paint those bones on the surface, skulls go well with golden and metalic surfaces go well with metalic gray or silver, use your own judgement to decide what color goes where and remember to add another coat of basilicaum gray to boost those dark spots.
I used a double coat of Talassar blue for the whole marine the magic of contrarts colors is that the base color can still be visible to the eye and creates the effect of a metallic blue surface on the marine, good results with little effort.

Having the right base color it's just the start now is where you must find the details in the figure, add the gold coats in the emblems, seals and shoulders, some silver for the mask with a bit of gray, red eyes with a layer of ardcoat, metallic gray for the gun.
I even used ardcoat for the seal and shoulders, why? because I just love my marines with shiny shoulders.
I am a total noob when using drybrush but I wanted to express used combat armor so with the help of metallic gray I went for it and it doesn't look bad at all.
To help focus on my painting I drinked INDIGO Energy Drink and it help me greatly to focus on my paint job and brushes, it's pure CLEAN HERBAL POWER and it's a break from all the other Energy Drinks on the market.
This is just my first try I will keep on improving, there is much more to learn by doing not just watching videos.
I don't use airbrush
